FRIB co-sponsors dance/physics performance at Wharton Center

We are sorry to report that the FRIB-inspired Isotopes in Motion performance at the Wharton Center and all related events have been cancelled.

FRIB will co-sponsor the Wharton Center’s “Of Equal Place: Isotopes in Motion” performance in March. Hundreds of Michigan grade-school students will attend performances on 19-20 March, participating in learning activities about dance, physics, and FRIB. A public performance will take place at 1 p.m. on 21 March.

“Of Equal Place: Isotopes in Motion” is a 55-minute multimedia performance that explores the themes common to both nuclear physics and dance:

  • stability and instability,
  • measurement,
  • acceleration,
  • fragmentation, and
  • navigating mystery.

Attendees of the public performance will have the opportunity to take a tour of FRIB following the performance.

The performance is a collaboration between FRIB, the Wharton Center, Dance Exchange, Happendance, and MSU’s Women and Minorities in the Physical Sciences (WaMPS) group. It is sponsored by FRIB, MSU’s Office of University Outreach and Engagement, MSU’s Science and Society @ State, and MSU’s Office of the Senior Vice President for Research and Innovation.

“As we build the world’s most powerful heavy-ion accelerator here at MSU, we are excited to share with our community how FRIB works and how the research conducted with it will positively impact our lives,” said Thomas Glasmacher, FRIB Laboratory director. “This collaboration provides us with a unique opportunity to showcase the scientific work and expand our connection with science, the arts, and our local community.”

Tickets for “Of Equal Place: Isotopes in Motion” are available at the Wharton Center.
